Brooks R. Leman, has 40 years experience developing and applying switching power conversion techniques in computer, networking, industrial, military, and consumer applications. He holds patents for transformer, power factor correction, MOSFET gate driver, handheld generator/battery charger circuit, boost regulator current limit, and remote sensing techniques and has written more than two dozen technical conference papers, magazine articles, and application notes. Mr. Leman began his career at ROLM Corporation's Mil Spec Computer Division, spent many years as a Principal Applications Engineer with Power Integrations, then worked as a Staff Design Engineer in the Compaq/HP NonStop computer power group. After a short stay at iWatt analyzing acoustic noise problems, he became a Principal Applications Engineer at Fyre Storm, Inc. focusing on digital power conversion for handheld mobile applications. He then spent eight years as a Field Applications Engineer for Linear Technology providing power conversion guidance and design expertise for large and small Silicon Valley companies. He is currently a Senior Principal Member of Technical Staff at Maxim Integrated focusing on modeling and simulating power conversion circuits with SIMPLIS.


An IEEE Senior Member, Leman holds both BSEE and MSEE degrees from Santa Clara University where, for the last 20 years, he has also been regularly teaching a power conversion graduate course.

For the past 7 years he has worked on and managed the development of Maxim’s EE-Sim DC-DC Converter Design Tool. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
